Texture, Hydration & Glow

Dehydration

Water loss in the skin — tightness, fine crinkling and skin that drinks product without improving.

01

What it is

Dehydration is a lack of water in the skin, not a lack of oil. Oily and acne-prone skin can be — and often is — dehydrated.

It shows as tightness, dullness, fine crinkling when pinched, and makeup that sits poorly.

02

Why it happens

  • Impaired barrier function increasing transepidermal water loss.
  • Over-cleansing, over-exfoliation and high-strength actives used too frequently.
  • Environment: air conditioning, heating, wind, low humidity and flying.
  • Reduced natural moisturising factor and ceramide content with age.

03

The layer involved

Structure

Stratum corneum and the lipid barrier

The outermost layer holds water via lipids and natural moisturising factors. Restoring that barrier changes how every other treatment performs.

05 · When we may need a medical assessment

Some things belong with a doctor first.

  • Persistent dryness with flaking, cracking or itch, which may be eczema or dermatitis.
  • Sudden dryness alongside fatigue or other systemic symptoms.
  • Dryness that does not improve after eight weeks of correct barrier care.
